Mouse didn’t work. Keyboard is bulky and backlit my kid my like that. The internet connection is Ethernet based. I read a review that used a WiFi stick- may look into that. Mine states excellent refurbished but mine is poor from the exterior. Scuffs, dents and scrapes. But I don’t care what it looks like as long as it works. So far so good. (Except the mouse)

I have always (past 25 yrs) developed by own specs for my personal computer. I then assembled each component and built the box for my own use. When I discovered the specifications for these computers I couldn’t believe the price. I read the reviews about banged up boxes and component failures but I decided I’d give these a try. I ordered three for Christmas presents. To my surprise each computer was exactly as advertised. I can’t build a computer with these components at this price. I’ve had mine a month now and it has been flawless. Each computer was packed carefully and arrived as ordered. If you’re looking for a fast computer with solid performance at an affordable price this is it. I will buy again.

I rely on a PC for my work. Mine broke down after five years. I needed one to replace it. This PC came a few days late. It is advertised as it comes with wireless WiFi. But the wireless WiFi did not work. So I had to run a long cable to get to the internet. The DVD player would not work (it would not open regardless of how many different ways I tried). So I could not upload the software that I use to do my work. I chatted with the seller or someone else. He said he could not help me and had to contact another department. I am quite a bit behind in my work. So I have no choice but to go to Wal-Mart and buy one. It is advertised online for $125 and put a great deal of time into packing it and returning it. This is a lot of work. I resent it more than hanging in the air without a PC.

Beings that I have a fairly new HP printer and a well known better brand keyboard & mouse, there was no wireless set up. Plugged them in and they all connected themselves. I prefer a cat direct connect to the net. Router was easily set up. I would not use it as a desktop computer, it is quite large-it’s on the floor under the desk. Loaded my software and data files from my laptop. Everything loaded in a blink. So far so good. Retired accountant getting ready to go back in the workforce working remotely. Was looking for a reliable computer quality desktop (renewed made it affordable) to get me started. I think I found it. Even started some online Intuit certification courses. I think a lot of seniors are finding their retirement lacking. So it’s back to crunching numbers. Really like this computer, it is just like new.

I bought this PC as a perceived best option to replace a failed main workstation. I needed a replacement that would be compatible with a GNU/Linux operating system. HP has their own Linux Enterprise distribution, and being a business-oriented model only strengthened the assumption this would be perfect for my needs.
Specs on this are across the board better than the failed unit’s. I knew I would be changing hardware, so I made sure that I could make these changes before buying.
The provided Hitachi 2 TB HDD was nearly 9 yrs old, with over 54,000 hours of run time on it, so I swapped it out for a brand new 2 WD 2 TB I had in inventory, adding a slightly-used 1 TB WD as a second drive. Although a noisy operating drive, SmartMonitor suggested that the Hitachi had a lot of life left in it. I’ll use it my docks as a spare backup solution.
(Extra value #1)
The 120 GB SSD included in the PC wasn’t needed, so I used it in my laptop. The improvement in performance was very noticeable.

A Tendon W311M a/b/n class Wi-Fi dongle was provided in a static-protection pack. I had no need for this in the HP, but I did have a Gateway desktop that was going into the workshop and needed Wi-Fi capability. Now the Gateway can connect to my router via Wi-Fi.
Noted Shortcomings:
The laptop designed DVD drive is useless. It struggled to read my burned DVD-Rs. There is a bay provided that will open to the outside for a 5.25″ DVD-RW. I plan on adding one from my inventory. Unfortunately, I will need to keep the DVD drive in the chassis, until I can order a blank cover.
HP doesn’t provide enough mounting screws to fully populate the drive bays. I ended up with 7 instead of 8, now mounting two HDDs. I ordered a set of eight screws from Amazon (about $8 USD.)
I wish the motherboard has just one PCI slot. I was fortunate not to have an immediate need for one, but…
Linux users will need to download from their Tendon’s website the source code for their v3.0 proprietary driver. This won’t be a standard ‘make, make install’ installation. A binary is provided under the ‘tools’ directory to install driver to the system. There are no instructions provided on the website or in the source package. it took some searching and a ‘cross my fingers and try this’ approach to figure this out. Installation is dialog-free, without visuals. You’ll know it’s done when the HDD stops.
Lastly, I’m not fond of paying a ‘M$ tax’ on a PC I buy, but I’m used to it. In getting the full use of the drives I’ve destroyed a legit, complete OEM Windows 10 installation. It *only* bothers me that I paid for it.
The extra values, in my case, made the cost for this unit an extraordinary value. Time will tell how durable it will be. The 1 yr warranty is a big plus, and that the vendor will not void my warranty because of the above changes made. I highly recommend this PC for Linux users wanting a cheap system with lots of modern features. I can’t comment on running the PC with the provided Windows 10 installation.

This windows 11 computer works very well. It still has a DVD tray, so it must be an upgraded windows 10 model. The only difficulty I have had was with windows 11. Everything on the desktop is also in the cloud. Delete something on the cloud and it is gone from the local computer as well.
