The BowFlex SelectTech Dumbbells are just about the sexiest piece of gym equipment I’ve ever owned.

I’m currently in Phase 3 of my P90X workouts and the only regret I have is not having purchased these sooner! They are FUN to use! Everything from switching the weight dials, pulling them out of the base, the feel of the grip and sliding them back into the base is enjoyable. Even the rattle of the weights works with your momentum when lifting. (that is not to say the weights are loud in any way)

    A few things I noticed.

BowFlex did a great job selecting which weight plates are added and removed for every setting! In other words, the dumbbells look great with any weight setting because they are distributed and spread out accordingly. I think they look pretty cool even with no added weight plates (5 pound setting)kinda like futuristic hex dumbbells.

The hand grips are hands down the best I’ve ever felt on any dumbbell period. In fact, they feel better than majority of other handles on unrelated devices, like bicycle handles and hammers.

Although I worried initially from some of the other reviews about the size, mainly the width of these dumbbells, they have not presented any issues whatsoever. Even when I read that you’d have to make slight adjustments to certain movements, I was worried… but now I understand what those adjustments are and they truly are so minor that it doesn’t even take conscious thought past the initial perception of it.

The design/colors are truly a thing of beauty. They don’t feel like a dirty, rusty, smelly pair of dumbbells like my old hexagon dumbbells. They feel like a sleek, expensive, hi-tech gadget, which for me, really adds that extra motivation while working out. It’s a good feeling knowing you have the best gear to support your fitness goals.

As for durability and construction, once again… feels solid. Of course these are not your regular pair of steel/metal dumbbells that you can drop and throw around with little concern. The SelectTechs have intricate moving parts and many different materials beyond just steel, but with proper use and care, I can see them lasting indefinitely. (life-time)

    Conclusion:

    Visual Design – 5 stars

    Functional Design – 5 stars

    Durability (w/proper use) – 5 stars

Ease of Use – 5 stars

    Satisfaction – 5 stars

If you’re looking for a pair of dumbbells that look great, work great, costs less than buying individually, takes up minimal space and inspires you to push your workouts to the next level… get these immediately. You won’t regret it!

I’ve had these dumbbells for a month now, and I absolutely love them! They’re super versatile and easy to adjust, which makes switching up my workouts a breeze. The quality feels solid, and they’re comfortable to use. Overall, they’ve been a great addition to my home gym! Highly recommend if you’re looking for space-saving, adjustable dumbbells.

Like many people the past week, I have been scrambling to find home gym equipment. While I was hesitant about the price at first ($399 at the time), you will find that you would probably pay alot more buying the individual pairs which take up more space.

After a week of use, I am highly satisfied with the dumbells. Easy to use, comfortable and highly durable.

It takes a workout or 2 to get used to the feel. Certain workouts (any chest press or squat) require little adjustment with your positioning and wrist, but never is range of motion limited.

Obviously these are more delicate than your local gym weights so DO NOT DROP by any means necessary. However, if handled with care, the feel becomes natural and you don’t feel like your holding little machines.

I highly recommend these dumbells. Fantastic value, a space saver and a great investment during these times and even after this all passes.

Edit: 5 months of heavy use. These have held up real well. No issues to date. Like others have mentioned, the weight discs have a slight give. I only noticed this after a month or 2. Nothing to worry about in my opinion. As long as you’re not dropping these hard into the base or onto the floor, these should last a while.

Edit #2: 9 months in and these are still holding up. There is some aesthetic wear and tear that doesn’t affect function. The chrome paint on the handle is starting to chip. Other than that, these are still proving to be highly durable.

I have been using it since one month and it is working great. It has good locking mechanism but that makes me nervous too. It is very delicate locking system and it could be damaged easily if dropped or handled badly. This is best if you use it carefully for home workouts!! Hope they have warranty on this.

I purchased my first set of Bowflex 552 dumbbells about 12 yrs ago and recently broke one of them by slamming the dumbbell down on its base too hard and damaged one of the clips that hold the plates in place. These are built exceptionally well and the design is very efficient and durable enough to last me 12 yrs. The adjustability is a fantastic feature that makes them very functional for a full range of exercises for everyone in my family. Adjustable from 5 to 52 lbs and the space saving design keeps my excercize equipment nice and consolidated.

I bought these in January of 2013. Not a week has gone by that these things did not get some use, usually at least 3x per week, often a lot more. If it wasn’t me using them, it was one of the many roommates, friends, and family members who have lived with me over the years. I used them back when me and some friends were doing the p90x; they’ve been a part of pretty much every exercise routine I’ve ever used in the past 10 years; I often use them in between gaming sessions or while waiting through loading screens; friends often mess around with them casually when they come over; I’ve lent them out for brief periods for friends who wanted to try them out.

Honestly, after 10 years of hard, constant use, they still look and feel brand new to me. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

When I first got them, I worried that I was making an expensive impulse purchase, and that they would gather dust in the corner or break after a few years. In the years since, I frequently look back and think to myself, “that was probably one of the best purchases I’ve made.”

I’ve never had any issues with the weights, and they’ve never failed on me. They’re extremely easy to use and are indispensable for workouts. Adjusting the weights is still as smooth and as simple as the day I first purchased them, and to me the clicking sound that the adjusting process makes is an oddly satisfying noise.

They’re small and don’t take up much space. They’re easy to move if you can lift 55 lbs (a little more than a kitty litter bucket), and the base has what feels like handholds on all four sides. Hell, you can even stack them and carry them two at a time, or store them on top of each other.

The biggest con I can think of is that they’re a bit bulky when you’re using them, so they might be a little unwieldy for some exercises. Never bothered me that much, though. Maybe the fact that you have to adjust both sides of the dumbbell might be a little cumbersome, but honestly that’s being very nit-picky.

I’ve recommended these to so many people over the years, and I can’t praise them enough. If they were to break on me tomorrow, I would purchase a replacement set the first opportunity I had – though I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if these outlast me at the rate they’re going.
